A Discussion of Details
Recently our Tailored Twig design team had the pleasure of working with Nicole Kaney and the team at NK Production. Kim and Tommy’s luxurious wedding at Sarasota’s Marie Selby Botanical Gardens was filled with unique, hand tailored details in a color story of blush and gold. Wedding ceremonies at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens are known for their majestic trees draped in Spanish moss. They set an elegant backdrop, but the detailing of Kim and Tommy’s wedding went even farther. The pathway to the wedding ceremony was framed with a rustic garden trellis covered with native vines. A swag of soft pink Sweet Eskimo and Quicksand roses, pink spray roses and light pink snapdragons added a focal point to the entrance. The outdoor wedding ceremony was set with white chivari chairs accented with nosegays of delicate pink florals and greenery. Four large gold toned vessels marked the beginning and end of the aisle; overflowing with seeded eucalyptus, Italian ruscus and cottage roses in pink and white with wax flower and snapdragons. A white aisle runner was framed with a blanket of white petals leading to the ceremony space. A cascade of pink hung from the trees above the ceremony space with floral chandeliers of lush greenery, spray roses, light pink ranunculus and giant queen pink protea. Kim wore an elegant modern lace gown and carried a luxurious textured bouquet of Marianne anemone, pink Cozy Cottage roses, Queen Pink protea, Gardenia peonies and seeded eucalyptus. Her wedding party was dressed in shades of pink and rose gold and carried similarly styled bouquets accented with sweet pink roses and snapdragons. Across the gardens, finishing touches were being added to Kim and Tommy’s elegant tented wedding. One of our Tailored Twig design team’s favorite touches for a wedding reception is an elegantly appointed lounge area and they are officially “IN” for 2020. Cream colored vintage chairs and sofa were accented with pink and gold pillow while; glass and gold toned tables added a modern element to the collection. The seating area was finished with rectangular vessels filled with pink and white florals and several styles of votive candles. The ceiling of the reception tent was draped in flowing white fabric with nearly a dozen crystal chandeliers lighting the space. Round guest tables were draped in luxurious soft pink linens and layered with gold rimmed china and stemware. Tall rose gold vessels dotted the room with overhead arrangements, alternating with tables set with arrangements in gold footed vessels. Pink and white wax flower, roses and greenery we accented with Blue Bell thistle, Marianne anemone and pink snapdragons for texture and dimension. A long rustic wooden head table sat at one end of the tent overflowing with a cascade of pink and white blooms, modern glass vessels with floating candles and textured votive candles. Custom gold toned name pieces and lush floral swags marked the bride and groom’s seats. The couple’s amazing cake and unique table display added to the weddings incredible details. A living table of thick greenery, Spanish moss and a skirt of pink and white floral accents held the couple’s four-tiered blush, white and brushed gold wedding cake. A cascade of roses, white astible, wax flower and Italian ruscus wound its way across the wedding cake. Congratulations Kim and Tommy, our Tailored Twig design team is thrilled to have been part of your incredible wedding! Thank you to the other wedding professionals who were part of this luxurious wedding. Our Tailored Twig design team has seen something interesting happen in weddings over the last few months that looks like one of 2020's top wedding trends. Tiny Houses We are guessing that by now you have seen or heard about Tiny Houses. These miniature version of a full-sized house. Couples aren’t looking for fewer features or less luxurious options in the houses. They are looking for less square footage and to surround themselves with things that are meaningful to them. Micro Wedding Micro weddings are becoming almost as popular as Tiny Houses. They are NOT the stereotypical elopement, spur of the moment courthouse wedding. What our Tailored Twig design team has seen and so is the wedding industry as a whole, is that couples want a luxurious, meaningful wedding surrounded by the people they love. What this means for most couples is smaller numbers of wedding guests, focusing on personalization and the guest experience. Here To Stay Please do not misunderstand us, decades of industry experience are showing that big, fabulous family weddings are here to stay. For many couples and their families, it’s a way of life. They have big extended families; large social circles and a big wedding is part of their way of life. Not to mention that there are lots of couples who have dreamed of big fairytale weddings their entire lives. What is changing is the smaller intimate weddings. These are for couples who only saw an elopement, courthouse and intimate destination getaway as an option. It Is All About The Details A Micro Wedding is all about the details, it’s about having all of the beautiful things you thought you would miss out on by having an intimate elopement. Our Tailored Twig team has worked with couples to design beautiful lounge seating areas layered with area rugs, vintage furnishings, and comfortable accent pillows; surrounded by unique vessels filled with the couple’s favorite blooms. The perfect spaces to sit back and share stories of the couple and their families. We have handcrafted intimate dining spaces filled with family china and glassware, luxurious linens and breathtaking tablescapes. Each table making honored wedding guests feel like they are an welcomed guest in the couples home. From hand-tailored personal flowers for each wedding guest to collections of inspired centerpieces where each guest has a vessel as a keepsake. Tiny weddings are focused on making those around you know just how thankful you are for them. Trying to interview our Tailored Twig design team for our team profiles has its challenges, they typically do not like to be put on the spot taking about their life outside of work. Fortunately, we gave our Studio Administrator, Mary, plenty of notice and asked lots of questions about her life here in the Tampa area. This week Mary is celebrating her one-year anniversary with our Tailored Twig family, so we thought it was time to introduce you to the voice on the other end of the phone. A transplant from Rockaway Beach, New York; a little surfer town written about by The Ramones. Coming from the north east, it’s not a surprise that while Mary loves the new-life feeling of spring and feeling like a kid during the summer, she also loves the change of seasons that come with fall and winter. Mary’s background in interior design brings so much to the team, with her understanding of space and event flow. She is super organized and her personality fits in perfectly with our design team. She’s not so secretly obsessed with our studio's Austin Powers pinball machine with a high score of 144,602,280 and she just might be a little bit competitive. We love that she is Wentworth’s biggest fan, and spoils him rotten. At home, she has a crested gecko named Boz Scaggs and two rescue kitties, Amelia Earhart and Nellie Bly; who live up to their strong female namesakes. Eclectic is the perfect term to describe Mary. From Django to Dave Matthews Band, antiquing to thrift stores, ice hockey to yoga; she enjoys New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Russian River Pinots, as well as craft beers and gin. When asked what her last meal on earth would be, she answered in her usual fashion that she would pick four items off the menu and ask the server to surprise her with one of them. Living here nearly seven years, Mary has taken well to Florida life. She makes time to explore Florida’s history and natural beauty, making it to one new place every weekend. She will usually look for places to swim, dive, dip her toes in the water and she even tried cave diving this year. Another aspect of Mary’s life is her desire to give back. Both of her cats are rescues, she regularly participates in beach cleanups and is part of several nature conservancy organizations and donates blood as often as they will let her. When asked the favorite part of her job, Mary answered: Hands down – seeing all of the photos from our clients after their special events. I get to witness everything that happens behind the scenes – from first interactions with newly engaged couples, to the conceptualization process and the painstaking logistics, to the final result and big smiles that come along with it. As you can see Mary is the perfect fit for our Tailored Twig design team! Our Tailored Twig creative design team loved working with a talented group of wedding professionals to create this intimate at-home wedding in Osprey, just outside of Sarasota. The outdoor wedding ceremony took place under a sprawling tree in the side yard of the couple’s home. The bride carried a loose, organic, flowing bouquet of Marianne anemone, white astilbe, soft white tea roses, green thistle, white snowberries, and full luxurious Duchess peonies, creating incredible texture. Following the wedding ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails, and butler passed hors d’ oeuvres on the pool deck. A lounge area was created with stunning royal blue velvet sofas accented with neutral-toned accent pillows and vintage chairs. Modern glass and gold coffee tables were dressed with arrangements of textured greenery, white roses, and soft blue delphinium, which popped against the blue backdrop. The patio dining space was set with long wooden rustic tables set under a canopy of shimmering lights. Place settings of uniquely shaped, vintage-inspired, cream-colored china with delicate gold bands were layered with soft floral pattern napkins, custom menus, and place cards. The tables were lined with a combination of low, flowing arrangements in unique vessels ranging from rustic materials to delicate Venetian glass. The vessels overflowed with antique hydrangea, white campanula, dark blue delphinium, cream roses, and baby blue nigella. Taller modern glass vessels with floating candles, a gold-toned birdcage with pillar candles, and elegant vintage glass votives completed this eclectic look. After a welcome by the couple and a blessing, the wedding guests enjoyed an amazing five-course gourmet dinner while being serenaded by soft guitar music. Following a fantastic dinner, the friends and family danced the night away, and the evening concluded with the bride and groom cutting this striking two-tiered wedding cake. The bottom tier was a beautiful pale blush color, and the top layer was an elegant black tier with hand-detailed gold scrolling. The blending of Duchess peonies and Marianne anemone, along with a delicate gold riser and vintage-inspired linen, created a beautiful backdrop for an understated wedding cake. Beautiful floral and decorative accents can transform an intimate, at-home wedding into a memorable occasion. Our Tailored Twig design team looks forward to working with you to create the wedding of your dreams. Thank you to the incredible team of wedding professionals who made this beautiful Sarasota area wedding complete. These unique, textured, hand-tailored creations are a personalized accessory for the bride-to-be and a compliment to her wedding gown. But the bridal bouquet also sets the tone and often the color story for the rest of the wedding décor. Everything Old Is New In ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt brides frequently carried bouquets that included stalks of grain, flowering branches, fresh herbs, and native flowers. These abundant, textural bouquets were fragrant, and each item honored a specific deity, typically for warding off evil spirits, invoking fertility, and the unbreakable bonds of marriage. During the Victorian era, people became obsessed with the language of flowers. Each floral specimen had a specific meaning and symbolism. Bridal bouquets, while communicating a specific meaning, were often small, compact, and uniformly shaped. Fashion and fortune in the early 20th century and royal weddings after World War II brought about more luxurious styles of bridal bouquets, as well as flowers for the bridal party, boutonnieres, ceremony and reception décor. Personalization Today’s modern bridal bouquets tell a story, incorporating each bride’s unique personality and also of the events to come. Bridal bouquets are not only a luxurious statement piece that accessorizes the bride’s ensemble, but they tell a story. Maria, Maria Maria’s fiery personality and Colombian heritage inspired a brilliant red wedding color story and this magnificent cascading bridal bouquet. The décor for this Sarasota wedding at The Ringling’s Ca d’Zan took its inspiration from the bouquets red Colombian roses, deep burgundy amaranthus, glossy red anthurium, and black scabiosa Versace The elegant Mediterranean Revival of The Villa Casa Casuarina, also known as the Versace Mansion, and its hand-painted murals lent themselves to a more reserved, yet elegant, floral creation. The bride’s sheaf bouquet in neutral tones was filled with textural elements that included miniature pineapples for a whimsical touch. This was the perfect styling for her soft natural makeup and hairstyling, as well as her light flowing Grecian style gown. Rustic Yet Romantic Tampa’s historic Rialto Theatre, with its distressed rustic features and exposed brick, set the backdrop for Chelsea and Matt’s wedding. Chelsea carried a rustic bouquet of lush greens, seeded eucalyptus, burgundy tipped king protea, pink waxflower, and burgundy roses and dahlias. The hand-tailored creation combined a romantic color palette and rustic texture. Modern Art The modern elements of the Art Ovation Hotel in Sarasota gave our Tailored Twig design team the perfect opportunity for creations with boldness, color, and personality. The bride’s bouquet incorporated bold, vibrant colors with huge full campanula garden roses, blue thistle, astrantia, and brilliant, uniquely shaped gloriosa lilies. Tulip magnolia branches extended from this hand-tailored creation to add dimension and interest. Romance Meets Industrial Lauren and Grymes’ Tampa wedding allowed our creative team the opportunity to blend the romantic detailing of the couple’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church wedding ceremony with the more industrial textures of their Armature Works reception venue. Lauren carried a stunning, one-of-a-kind, bridal bouquet that incorporated King Protea, cymbidium orchids, black scabiosa, white anemones with dark centers, Quicksand and Heart roses with seeded eucalyptus, hanging green amaranthus and privet berry. The elegant combination of botanicals played with color and texture, the perfect accessory to her stunning gown with long sleeves of embroidered lace. What will your bridal bouquet say about you and your wedding? Our Tailored Twig design team looks forward to the opportunity to create a spectacular, custom-designed creation to reflect your personality and style. If you have not been to our Tailored Twig design studio in Tampa you are missing out on a lot. Our design studio is just like our Tailored Twig creations; edgy, intentional, and everything tells a story. Wentworth Back in early March, our Tailored Twig team brought in a new addition to our family. Wentworth, our mascot in training and one of the best-behaved pups in the floral business. When Wentworth arrived in our Tampa design studio, he had huge paws, big floppy ears, and soft squishy skin. He was super curious, loved to play, and run around the studio and warehouse. Gone But Not Forgotten Wentworth follows in the footsteps of our original mascot, Winthrop, who we lost back in February. He was the inspiration for our Tailored Twig logo and taught our team a lot about love and life. He showed us how to be better humans. He was always true to his nature. He loved all beings, if they were aggressive or annoying, he quietly walked away. Mascot Training Wentworth, who is also a German Shorthaired Pointer, has been growing by the minute. He loves to hang out with his big brother Buster, who spends most of the day sleeping, but loves to cuddle. Wentworth’s ongoing training has included teaching him to answer telephone calls, which always adds a sense of calm to everyone he speaks with. Cuddle time with the boys is the perfect way for our Tailored Twig team to take a little break. Just like every vessel we use and every floral creation we hand tailor, these boys are unique and different. Now, if we could just teach Wentworth to chase down ping pong balls! We know that Wentworth had huge shoes to fill as our Tailored Twig studio mascot, but he’s doing an incredible job, and still just a pup. Stop by our Tampa floral design studio sometime, if you want to come play with Wentworth. He has a lot of energy to burn off!
Our Tailored Twig quite often gets to be part of a wedding that people refer to as the love of a lifetime and friends wish them a lifetime of happiness.
Rarely do we have the unique pleasure of working with a couple whose love extends beyond the grave! Recently, we had the opportunity to be part of an All Hallows Eve creative shoot with a couple whose love will last an eternity. Fun concepts for a creative stylized shoot give our Tailored Twig design team the chance to work even farther out of the box than we normally do. We can work with exceptionally unusual elements, especially when the couple is out of this world. The creative shoot was the concept of Arianna J Photography and VibeChaos Productions, who both love Halloween. The pair took our Tailored Twig team to a remote wooded area outside of Sarasota to Mayakka, an area known as Wandering Woods. Shot just after sunset the styled shoot has a dark and dreamy feel.
Our Tailored Twig design team created two headpieces and a one of a kind bridal bouquet for this wedding with a “Day of the Dead” feel. The inner workings and wiring of a mattress were used to create the wraps for the couple’s headpieces and to add texture and structure to the floral enhancements. The groom’s headpiece was designed with foraged branches adding height. Dried seed pods were added to bring in a deep rich color which popped against the coal colored bones and skulls of the headband. The bridal headpiece incorporated many of the same elements and we added some delicate Spanish moss and Jackpot Thistle for some softness and texture.
The bride’s oversized, asymmetric arm sheaf bouquet was a killer that perfectly complimented her headpiece and attire. Long slender foraged branches supported a cascade of deep burgundy kangaroo paw. Sharp spikey green and white thistle added to the unique textures, with a pop of brightness coming from the shades of purple in the Gladiator Allium. No bridal bouquet would be complete without a little bling and adding a skull was just the right touch.
Congratulations to the not so happy couple, we wish you an everlasting love. Our Tailored Twig design team loves working with couples to design beautiful focal points and ceremony structures for their wedding day. In many cases, especially where the couple’s wedding ceremony and reception are in the same location, these hand tailored design elements can be repurposed to highlight the sweetheart table or wedding cake. Lux And Intimate Marysse and Bradley’s luxurious wedding was hosted at the beautiful Sage restaurant in downtown Sarasota. Their intimate wedding ceremony was held on the rooftop with spectacular views of the Sarasota skyline. Their rooftop wedding ceremony was dressed in gold, with gold chivari ballroom chairs and two tall brushed gold metallic trumpet vases flanking the couple as they exchanged their wedding vows. The trumpet vases overflowed with spectacular florals that included pink and white roses, spray roses, lilac and astilbe. During the couple’s cocktail reception, the two gold vessels were relocated to the reception space where they were placed on either side of the rustic wooden sweetheart table. Romantic and Rustic at the Rialto Chelsea and Matt’s wedding at the iconic Rialto Theatre in the historic Tampa heights section of Tampa began with the couple exchanging their wedding vows under a rustic trellis. This romantic, yet rustic creation combined gold columns with a distressed wooden trellis, a thick garland wound its way around the structure. The garland included seeded eucalyptus, burgundy roses and striking king protea, a theme that was carried throughout the wedding. As the room was transformed for the evening's wedding reception, the ceremony structure was repurposed as a beautiful focal point over the couple’s sweetheart table. Monochromatic and Memorable The Oxford Exchange was the location of Jenny and Jeff’s Tampa destination wedding. This wedding’s décor included a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony in the venues glass covered conservatory. The room had a black and white checkerboard pattern floor that was set with high gloss black chivari chairs. Tall gold vessels were filled with lush monochromatic white florals which were placed along the center fountain as a décor element and then later placed atop long reception tables. Repurposing elements of your wedding ceremony décor is an excellent way to add an additioanal focal point and luxurious details to your wedding reception. How does a guy with absolutely no floral design experience become one of the most important parts of our Tailored Twig floral design team? Nash, originally from Artemisa, Cuba, is a former Mixed Martial Arts fighter and had a school in Cuba where he taught 28 students. He previously worked as security in bars and there are not a lot of flowers there. It’s pretty simple, Nachiell (Nash) de Santis is our floral design teams nuts and bolts guy, our warehouse manager! Nash loves to build things, especially out of wood and metal; so he is a major part of creating our structures for wedding ceremonies and sweetheart tables. And while Nash is for the most part a behind the scenes guy, we wanted to learn a little bit about Nash. Nash is absolutely an outdoors guy. When we asked him what his last meal earth would be he answered “Not food, I would drink mead from a horn!” In his free time, Nash likes to travel outside the city and enjoy nature with his two pups Kiara and Johnny. Kiara is a German Shepherd – Lab mix and Johnny is an Akita mix. When it comes to travel, music and reading, Nash’s taste is all outdoorsmen too. He prefers the cooler weather of fall and winter. His ultimate travel destinations would be Norway, Denmark, Scotland and Ireland, it’s something about the mountains that draws him in. Nash’s taste in music runs from Dark County to Irish folk. On the more serious side, Nash loves to give back. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Sarasota and headed to Miami after hurricane Irma to help with hurricane relief. When we asked Nash about his secret, or no so secret obsession he gave us a very Nash answer. “A secret is a secret.” One of the absolute best things about Nash is that he is always putting others first, always checking in to see how he can help out, and always, always, always keeping us smiling. Nash is the very lighthearted, sweet, “tough guy” of Tailored Twig, and we are thrilled to have him as part of the team. A show stopping structure for your wedding ceremony is sure to be Instagram worthy and set the tone for the weddings design story and our Tailored Twig team cake make that a reality. Gone are the days of the basic white garden arches. Wedding structures can take on the personality of each couple and include sample elements of the décor to be found throughout the wedding. Modern and Metallic Amanda and Brad’s modern styled wedding at Tampa’s historic Orlo incorporated multiple tall brushed gold tone vessels with an explosion of greenery and white botanicals. These asymmetric creations were set against stark white flowing drapery. The gold tones continued along the aisle in modern geometric vessels filled with similar greenery and floral. The ceremony structure stood out against the clear acrylic ghost chairs that continued the modern design elements. A Little Boho Keri and Chris’s incredible beach wedding at the Longboat key Club incorporated a pampas grass wedding structure that fluttered in the gulf breeze. Rustic wooden benches and an aisle layered with woven rugs brought the boho chic wedding vibe together. Crystal Clear A luxurious clear acrylic chuppah was the style selection for Allison and Matthew’s Selby Gardens Jewish wedding ceremony. Clear acrylic columns held a canopy of white flowers with dozens of white phalaenopsis orchids cascading down. This lush, monochromatic white color story popped against the clear elements of this beautiful wedding. Out of This World! A May the 4th, Star Wars themed wedding required an out of this world wedding structure. Emily and Robert’s Selby Gardens wedding ceremony was set under enormous banyan trees. Their matte finish metallic, modern structure was wrapped in a swirl of rustic, textural banyan root with hanging amaranthus and a pop of color from the blue dendrobium orchids. Eclectic Elegance Ashley and Derek’s destination wedding on the beach of the historic Don Cesar incorporated a mix of modern and rustic natural elements. Their wedding chuppah incorporated tall ceramic earth tone vessels supporting live bamboo. Soft greenery and pink and white flowers topped the vessels while a canopy of billowing white fabric creating a canopy for their waterfront Jewish wedding ceremony. Beautiful wedding structures inspired by each couple set the tone for amazing things to come. Be sure to reach out to our Tailored Twif design team to discuss adding a fabulous wedding structure to your wedding ceremony. |
