A Discussion of Details
To say that Emily and Robert’s wedding was out of this world would be an understatement. Their beautiful Sarasota wedding at Selby Gardens is definitely very different from anything our Tailored Twig team has showcased on our blog.
This Star Wars themed wedding could not be more perfect for this week.
Emily’s hand tailored bridal bouquet was an explosion of delicate trumpet shaped purple and white Picasso calla lilies wrapped in delicate lace reflecting her wedding gown.
Robert’s boutonniere included a single Picasso calla lily, veronica and a textural accent, the perfect accompaniment to his navy-blue tuxedo.
A banyan tree on the south side of the Selby gardens set the backdrop for their wedding ceremony.
A geometrically shaped metal arbor was the foundation for a unique, perfectly themed wedding ceremony structure. Draped in swirling banyan root, lush green amaranthus and purple and blue dendrobium orchids, the ceremony structure was elegantly tied to the Star Wars theming.
Wedding guests enjoyed the Rainforest before moving to the north side of the gardens and the Michael’s On The Bay Ballroom for dinner and dancing.
The ballroom was set with soft lush navy blue linen, layered with geometric gold charger plates, navy blue napkins and custom menu cards. Gold and black flatware, gold rimmed stemware, mercury glass votive candles and high gloss black chiavari chairs added additional shimmer and dimension to the décor.
Collections of uniquely textured botanicals made the room come alive, layering color, texture and interesting materials. Our Tailored Twig designers began with unique black ceramic and gunmetal vessels with interesting lines and detailing.
Each table was uniquely appointed with hand tailored floral collections including soft pink spiked King protea, dianthus, white campanula, snapdragons, and thistle as well as Inca gold leucadendron, blushing protea, bells of Ireland, open cut calla lilies, pepper berry and Picasso calla lilies. Taller arrangements were draped in green amaranths adding long lines and interesting visual.
Multi-level lighting that included shimmering candlelight, pin spots on centerpieces and soft up lighting to wash the walls in light all enhanced the dramatic look of this wedding décor.
While it does not include any floral accents, we have to share this fantastic five-tiered wedding cake that completed the Star Wars theme of Emily and Robert’s wedding.
Congratulations Emily and Robert, may the force be with you!
Thank you to all of the talented wedding professionals that brought this unique wedding to life.

Early March was the perfect time for Ashley and Derek’s St. Pete Beach wedding at the iconic Don Cesar Hotel, and our Tailored Twig design team could not have been happier to be part of their special wedding day.
The couple, transplants from Ohio, invited their family and friends to a enjoy some warmer Tampa Bay weather with a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony on the sands of the Gulf of Mexico.
Ashley looked stunning in a floral patterned sheer lace sheath wedding gown and chapel length veil draped to cover her shoulders. Ashley carried a hand tailored bridal bouquet in shades of white and green which included Duchess peonies, garden roses, Queen Anne’s lace, white campanula, snapdragons, wax flower, seeded eucalyptus and white and black Marianne Anemone.
The bride’s beautiful bouquet was a stark contrast to her bridal party in their dusty rose gowns carrying handtied bouquets of lush greenery, green thistle and accented with soft pink King protea.
The couple’s traditional Jewish wedding ceremony was held under a chuppah constructed with tall textured ceramic vessels filled with towering bamboo and a canopy of flowing white satin. The bases of the vessels were adorned with quicksand roses and vendela roses, greenery and soft hanging green amaranthus to frame the entrance to the chuppah.
The couple’s wedding reception in the Don Cesar’s newly renovated ballroom included an eclectic mix of tablescapes.
Long rectangular guest tables were designed with tall contemporary gold tone metallic risers which held full lush clusters of greenery and studded with soft pink and white flowers accented with pink ice protea at the base.
Other tables alternated with unique textured organic vessels and more traditional footed compotes overflowing with anemone, snapdragons, seeded eucalyptus, ruscus, pink and white roses, ranunculus and protea.
A few soft white ranunculus, pink roses, wax flower and a statue of the couple’s fur baby Winnie complimented their two-tiered naked wedding cake.
This wedding design in soft pink and white with unique textural elements was the perfect creations for the historic pink Don Cesar and the eclectic blending of a traditional Jewish wedding and a contemporary couple.
Congratulations Ashley and Derek!
Our Tailored Twig website and blog showcases our inspiration, design creations and the weddings and events we are honored to be part of, but we wanted to take some time to introduce you to some of our fantastic design team.
First up, and not at all excited to be in the spot light is our incredible Tailored Twig Lead Designer Daniel Gonzalez. We had a little fun talking about things beyond floral design and creation.
Have a Little Fun
Daniel is from Camagüey, Cuba about halfway between Havana and Santiago de Cuba. It was no surprise that when we asked him about his favorite beer, wine or cocktail that he responded “Mojitos! Preferably, with Cuban rum.”
Daniel is a foody, when we asked what his last meal would be he joked “Sushi, Mexican, Italian and Indian.”
One of our favorite things about Daniel is that he’s not afraid to dance. Daniel’s favorite type of music is ‘Girl Talk” a DJ mashup on Pandora that Daniel always has playing in the Tailored Twig studio.
On A Serious Side
Daniel owns a two year old Pitbull named Duke that he rescued when his homeless owner died of an overdose. They are quite the pair.
Tailored Twig owner, Darin Bahl said the one thing about Daniel that makes him smile is his ability to come up with a solution to basically any challenge, “it makes my heart smile.” Daniel’s favorite phase is “make it work.”
Daniel began his career in floral design seven years ago and has been working with our Tailored Twig design team for two years. His talent is so impressive, one minute he is pulling out a vessel for an arrangement and then look up again to see a gorgeous arrangement, sometimes more than one.
His creative talents extend beyond floral design; there are pieces of his artwork hanging in our studio.
Daniel says his favorite part of his job is conceptualizing and ultimately building things we’ve never seen or done before. And he does it so well.
Beyond his artistic talents and being an incredible floral designer, Daniel is a wonderful friend. He is a great listener and gives great advice and has a great laugh, whichever you might need.
We are overjoyed to have Daniel as our Tailored Twig Lead Designer, be sure to say HI to him the next time you are in our studio, you will be glad you did!
One of the things that sets our Tailored Twig design team apart is our process for working with our clients. Sketching out details of design elements for a wedding or event can truly show a client the vision we have discussed in living color.
We thought that sharing some of the inspiration sketches and the completed floral creation would be a wonderful way to share how a vision comes to life.
For our first feature we chose Maria and Charles’ Sarasota holiday wedding at Ca d’Zan, the beautiful historic mansion at The Ringling.
Their breathtaking outdoor holiday wedding ceremony on the steps of the Ringling Mansion was framed with magnificent stone and tile details, an oversized door in wood and wrought iron and some holiday décor with greenery, and twinkling lights.
The color story for their wedding was a bright, beautiful red. Maria, coming from Columbia was looking for something as bold and fiery as her personality.
The original design sketch was comprised of three tall gold pedestal vessels, alternating sides up the aisle as you approached the stairs where Maria and Charles would exchange their wedding vows.
The vessels increased in size beginning with a 38” tall urn, and progressing to 50” and finally 60” tall as you approached the wedding altar.
Each of the three vessels were overflowing with an oversized asymmetrical floral creation containing brilliant red anthurium, several dozen red roses, dark ruby red scabiosa
and magnificent dark burgundy cymbidium orchids.
The altar pieces were a pair of towering 78” vessels with red statement pieces matching the three pieces leading up the aisle, one on each side of the bride and groom.
We would say that the magnificent final floral creation was spot on, creating the perfect backdrop of the Maria and Charles’ luxurious Sarasota outdoor wedding ceremony.
Be sure to look for more Tailored Twig “From Inspiration to Creation” blog posts in the months to come!

Our Tailored Twig team loves being part of the Tampa Bay area wedding community. There are so many amazing wedding professionals as well as opportunities for networking and education.
Our Tailored Twig design team was invited to showcase our work at last month’s Association of Bridal Consultants Central Florida West Local Networking Group event.
The Association of Bridal Consultants hosts networking and educational events for the wedding community on a monthly basis across the Tampa Bay area with a focus on education.
The March meeting was held here in downtown Tampa at the brand new Julian B Lane Riverfront Park, an incredible special event space with nearly 3,000 square feet of space located on the west bank of the Hillsborough River.
The event space features floor to ceiling windows that open into a covered terrace with outstanding views of downtown Tampa. The space melds polished concrete floors, textured wooden walls and exposed beams into a unique industrial space.
Our team played off that vibe by combining rustic wooden farmhouse tables, silver industrial metal chairs with textured glass charger plates and luxurious linens in a spring color story.
We began the design concept by placing a large bright yellow and green floral chandelier in the center of the space and then placed similarly styled smaller floral chandeliers over the wooden farmhouse tables.
These long tables were layered with brightly colored table runners, round metallic vessels overflowing with flowers that continued the spring color story in shades of yellow and green with interesting blooms and interesting textures.
Our creations included butterscotch and caramel antique roses, yellow parrot tulips, blooming forsythia branches, and wolly bush with its soft texture. Mixing in metallic tone votive candles in a variety of sizes and a soft velvet napkin in a contrasting color topped with a super green ranunculus added more interest to the tablescape.
The round guest tables were draped with soft velvety linen and dressed with tall centerpieces atop bronze metallic risers. Using the same unique floral specimens as the low arrangements, these tall arrangements added in wax flower, fritillaria, green kangaroo paws, hybrid poppies, calathea, fern fronds, thistle, orchids and brunia albiflora creating more dimension and interest.
This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our work in one of Tampa’s newest event spaces to a community of our fellow wedding professionals. It was also gave us the chance for our team to mix and mingle and make some new friends.
When Sarat and Colin’s wedding planner brought our Tailored Twig design team into the planning process, we were so excited to be part of their intimate South Tampa wedding.
Their wedding vision of organic elements, shimmering copper and bright summery colors as well as incorporating geometric shapes, offered amazing design opportunities.
Designing for an intimate wedding of ten guests really focuses intently on the design elements and textures.
Sarat carried a stunning loose cascading hand tailored bridal bouquet overflowing with summery peach and orange dahlias, brightly colored spray roses, feathery blushing protea, silver and seeded eucalyptus and deep red hanging amaranthus.
The bright summery orange color palette of Sarat’s bouquet and Colin’s boutonniere reflected the local south Tampa artwork and popped against Colin’s deep blue suit.
The couple exchanged their wedding vows, which also included Sarat’s son, in front of a simple white ruched fabric arch. The wedding venues art installation of silver mirrored orbs reflected the geometric copper vessels filled with orange, peach and red blooms hanging from the delicate wedding arch.
The reception that followed paired a rustic wooden table, natural fiber table runner and napkins with copper charger plates. A long low centerpiece flowed through the middle of the table incorporating the same colors and botanicals as the personal flowers.
Copper geodesic containers held glass cylinders with floating candles surrounded by smaller vessels holding single blooms and custom octagon shaped marble place cards.
An imitate wedding reception doesn’t mean you have to overlook luxurious touches, in fact smaller weddings offer you the opportunity to add in beautiful chic personalized details.
We invite you to reach out to our Tailored Twig design team to discuss bring luxurious flor touches to you upcoming Tampa wedding.

Our Tailored Twig team designed some bright, unique and textured floral creations for Elizabeth and Mathieu’s downtown Tampa wedding.
This intriguing couple, who now live in Paris, enjoy traveling, cats and being silly together.
Their Tampa wedding portraits began at the University of Tampa’s iconic Plant Hall, formerly the Tampa Bay Hotel. The Victorian gingerbread detailing was the perfect backdrop to capture some stunning photographs.
Our team hand tailored a bridal bouquet to standout against Elizabeth’s soft, flowing lace wedding gown with a sweeping Cathedral length train by Barcelona luxury wedding gown designer Pronovias.
Her brilliantly colored bridal bouquet was created using yellow celosia, dahlias, pink garden roses, orange tulips, aster solidago, ranunculus and seeded eucalyptus.
Mathieu’s boutonniere also included orange ranunculus, seeded eucalyptus and solidago and incorporated blue bell eryngium for texture and a contrasting color element.
The details of blue bell eryngium, brightly colored spray roses and coral hypericum berries were carried throughout the wedding party flowers, including the flowers for this adorable flower girl.
We love how the brightly colored corals, hot pinks and bright oranges of this color story stand out against the dark ocean blues of the underwater seascapes in the Florida Aquarium, where the couple hosted their beautiful wedding ceremony and reception.
The brightly colored detailing of Elizabeth and Matthieu’s wedding continued into their three-tiered swirled white buttercream wedding cake. Beyond the bright color palette, we included touches of pincushion protea to enhance the texture.
Congratulations Elizabeth and Mathieu, we wish you a lifetime as bright, bold and beautiful as your wedding day.

Katie and Joe’s Gulf Coast wedding at the historic Bay Preserve at Osprey located on Little Sarasota Bay incorporated rustic elegance with a pop of color.
Our Tailored Twig design team worked with a very light, organic color story and designed hand detailed elements with texture and intent.
The Bay Preserve at Osprey is part of the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast and the feel of the nature preserve helped blend all of the design elements. We created a picked from the fields vibe with kumquats added as a design element for a pop of color.
Joe’s boutonniere combined stark black privett berries, balanced against the bright orange of a single kumquat with stems of white veronica that were still closed to add a unique more masculine feel.
Katie’s beautiful bridal bouquet incorporated softer variegated shades of green such as silver eucalyptus, snapdragon buds, veronica and Queen Anne’s lace. These green elements with touches of white moved into bolder white floral specimens with brilliant white peonies, white garden roses and white ranunculus, with the addition of the orange kumquats drawing your eye in.
The loose organic feel of Katie’s bridal bouquet was the perfect accessory to her modern lace applique wedding gown.
The tented wedding reception that followed the ceremony continued the elegant rustic design elements with a matte finish linen on an earthy grey tone, dark wooden French country chairs and wood block table numbers.
Low centerpieces in copper tone vessels were balanced against tall white risers, each continuing the natural green and white color story with the pops of orange kumquats. The arrangements, which alternate from table to table, brought in pepperberry greens, white campanula, privette berries, white spray roses and creamy vendela roses to add depth and
Katie and Joe’s simple three-tiered white combed buttercream wedding cake continued the color story with several brilliant clusters of kumquats.
Congratulations Katie and Joe, it was our pleasure to be part of your wedding day.

Being part of an editorial photo shoot at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Miami – Coral Gables offered our Tailored Twig design team a breathtaking canvas to design décor for two incredibly different design stories.
This spectacular luxury hotel built in 1926 combines elements of classic Italian, Moorish and Spanish architectural elements and each of the design concepts worked with the unique spaces.
The first design utilized an open-air garden setting with tall plaster columns and walls in shades of green with tropical palms to create a reception space with a fresh bright look.
A series of long tables were draped with a sunny yellow linen, gold metal wire risers were filled with an abundance of white and creamy ivory roses, white snapdragons, thistle, pampas grass, green apple anthurium, Italian ruscus and enormous philodendron leaves. The reception décor was set against shades of vintage greens in this historic hotel and created a fresh and timeless feeling.
The second design concept incorporated the brilliant colors of a South Asian wedding that played against the resorts decorative details to create some stunning images.
Brightly colored draping framed the space and set the tone for one of a kind tablescapes. Long guest tables were draped in a waterfall of color with Indian inspired linen in a variety of patterns and textures.
The guest tables were layered with gold rimmed china and goblets, gold glass votive candle holders and collections of uniquely shaped gold vessels. These items added a reflective metallic elements and helped ground the collections of brightly colored flowers.
Hand tailored collections of flowers included brilliantly colored roses in velvet wine, blueberry, burning orange, orange and exotic high yellow created a dramatic attention-grabbing look.
Pincushion protea in orange and yellow, safari sunset leucadendron, thistle and fiddlehead fern shoots added interesting textural elements. Clear acrylic ghost chairs were the perfect pairing to allow the table design to be the focal point.
This show stopping hanging wedding cake adorned with roses and orchids was supported by an incredible organic structure of banyan root, curly willow with bursts of color, and upright red amaranthus.
Our Tailored Twig always enjoys working on out of the box creations showcasing color, texture and unique botanical specimens; and working with amazing wedding professionals.

Our Tailored Twig design team was part of an editorial collaboration showcasing CAVU, a Tampa Heights flexible event venue.
CAVU is part of a growing number of industrial event spaces located just outside of downtown Tampa. The exposed brick, polished concrete floors, vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and storefront windows of the historic 1920’s automobile showroom blended beautifully with the chic, California inspired bohemian vibe for this collaboration.
The flexible event space allowed our team to utilize the open spaces with white walls and natural wood tones as a neutral canvass for an organic ceremony décor.
Light colored wooden church pews created an extra wide aisle that was accented with a series of three copper toned vessels on each side of the aisle. The vessels increased in size as they lead you to the ceremony structure.
The vessels overflowed with textural creations of air plants, white roses, snowberries, fringed white tulips and dusty miller.
The unique copper wedding structure formed in the shape of a home was adorned with a asymmetric covering of botanicals. The white, soft green and grey color story was continued in these stunning arrangements. Each contained a brilliant pop of orange amaryllis and the texture of the agonis branches were added to draw in the eye.
A lounge area was created to enhance the space to be used for a cocktail reception. Set against a background of brick, exposed wiring and vintage garden structures; the mixture of vintage leather seating, unique spindled wooden chairs, woven and fur throws created cozy, comfortable seating.
A coffee table arrangement of green trick dianthus, curly willow branches, dusty miller, snowberries, dreamy white breanthus and a touch of orange amaryllis in an industrial metal urn accented the lounge space.
Our Tailored Twig design team took full advantage of the natural light streaming in through the showroom windows. The direct lighting of the larger windows paired with the filtered light of the smaller transom windows added depth to the tablescape.
We worked against the backdrop of a wall filled with carriage lanterns and exposed wood. The tablescape included long organic wood bench seating, vintage chartreuse curved back chairs and antique wooden dining table.
The dramatic tablescape combined unique geometric vessels in organic, rustic and polished materials, taper candles in wrought iron candlesticks blended with air plants, white bouvardia, ranunculus, white fringed tulips, green trick dianthus, David Austin garden roses, snow berries and warm orange colored amaryllis plants.
Layered place settings with orange satin knotted napkins, custom menu cards and copper toned flatware completed the eclectic bohemian wedding design.
