A Discussion of Details
![]() If you know anything at all about Tailored Twig, you know we love sharing our passion for flowers, floral design and what we do. Part of our passion for sharing includes teaching people how to design their own amazing creations. This past holiday season Darin and our design team were part of ‘Wine and Design” at the magnificent Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. This year’s event themed “Holiday Splendor” attended by over 100 guests, offered them an evening filled with tasty treats, wine and the opportunity to spend one on one time with our designers.
Darin’s demonstration was shared with guests over two large production screens, allowing them to see an up-close view of his design process. Carts filled with spectacular red anthurium, dark red celosia and spray roses, green eyed merlot garden roses, and red astilbe as well as festive juniper, star of Bethlehem and veronica offered guests a wide variety of items to design their creations. With a little hand on instruction by our Tailored Twig team, each person was able to design their own one of a kind creation to take home. Our team had such an incredible time with this event and our we are looking forward to future events with Selby Gardens. In the past, we have worked with other groups for fun, educational floral design classes such as our “50 Shades of Rose” Valentine’s Day event, as well as private instruction and team building in our Tampa floral design studio. Our Tailored Twig team would love to custom design an educational floral design class for your garden club, or civic organization. These classes are also ideal for bachelorette parties and bridal or baby showers. Floral design classes are also the perfect team building activity for your corporation or associations board of directors. Alex and John’s blush, white and gold color story was amazingly soft and romantic and the amazing outdoor spaces at the Historic Spanish Point in Osprey created an incredible design backdrop for our Tailored Twig design team. Alex carried a soft hand tailored bridal bouquet of blush colored David Austin garden roses, white roses, peonies, ranunculus and snapdragons with Marianne Anemone with their striking black center as a focal point. The wide-open Duchene ceremony lawn, bordered by Queen Palms was set with gold chivari chairs facing an incredible classic portal erected in 1912. The portal was draped in soft flowing white and pink fabrics while flowering branches created an arched backdrop. The aisle of chairs was lined with soft nosegays of greenery with blush and white florals. Alex’s bridal party wore long black gowns and carried bouquets similar in style and color to hers with the groomsmen’s boutonnieres complimenting their classic black tuxedos. Across the property at the waterfront, the outdoor wedding reception glistened as the sun began to set. A large crystal chandelier floated above a black and white checked dance floor. Long rectangular acrylic tables framed the dancefloor. Modern gold tone vessels containing blooms of green thistle, white campanula, quicksand roses and white ranunculus rested on a long black fabric runner surrounded by mercury glass votive candles. The edge of the reception space was framed with round guest tables draped in pale blush linens topped with tall gold urns filled with lush greenery, dusty miller and accents of blush and white. Additional tables held gold footed vessels overflowing with blush and white roses, Italian ruscus, and seeded eucalyptus as well as green thistle and white campanula. Hanging chandeliers, clear acrylic chairs, glass charger plates with gold beaded edges and gold flatware completed the design. Nearby, a quiet terrace was set with comfortable vintage lounge furnishings and gold framed glass top coffee tables were accented with simple gold budvases and blush florals. Following their first dance Alex and Jon were surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed a multicourse gourmet dinner that concluded a custom-made S’mores Bar before the couple made their grand exit under a shower of sparklers.
